Uniting Eabrai Weston - Dementia care only

12 Namatjira Drive, WESTON ACT, 2611
Aged Care Home

Located in Weston in Canberra’s south western suburbs, Uniting Eabrai is a happy and welcoming aged care home. If you choose to become a resident, our caring team can assist you with personal care (such as getting dressed) and many of the day-to-day jobs that have become tricky to manage. We make ...

Our home is designed to meet the specific care needs of people living with dementia.

In recognition of our reputation for high-quality and compassionate dementia care, Uniting Eabrai Weston’s cottages comprise 2 of only 17 aged care homes funded by the Australian Government to deliver its Specialist Dementia Care Program (SDCP).

The dedicated team here is specially trained to care for our intimate community of residents, who are all living with dementia. We’re able to support people exhibiting severe changes in behaviour, in an environment that’s safe, comfortable, and dementia-inclusive.

Uniting Eabrai Weston has 2 separate households across both our Richards and Wilkinson cottages, delivering specialist dementia care for up to 8 residents in each. The SDCP offers 12-month transitional care to support behavioural and psychological symptoms, with the aim of transferring the resident out of this unit, and into a less intensive care setting.

How we care

Your loved one will have round-the-clock support to help manage their health, medication and personal care needs. There's a Registered Nurse on site 24/7, and a range of allied health professionals can address specific needs. We build trusting relationships with our residents, and work in partnership with you to create environments and routines that feel safe, familiar, and loving.

In addition to the clinical and allied health services that your loved one needs, we have:

  • A Specialist Dementia Care Program Unit – For residents who have been assessed by Dementia Support Australia and are eligible for a place within the program. Our carers receive ongoing training and are supported by internal and external specialists.
  • Accessible garden paths
  • Sensory garden
  • Quiet room – For added privacy, this peaceful room provides an alternative to the communal lounge areas, and is ideal for spending time with your loved one, or listening to soothing music
  • Opportunities to engage with animals
  • Therapeutic activities.

The aged care system can be complex, but we're here to help.

Your questions answered

There’s free wi-fi across the home for residents and visitors. All rooms are fitted with cabling to support Foxtel, Netflix, modems and telephone.

Yes, of course, we want everyone to feel very much at home. We encourage residents to customise their room with their belongings and to add personal touches such as music, a TV, photos, pictures, simple furnishings and bedspreads or doonas. We do insist that our beds are used, as they’re electrically operated for occupational health and safety reasons. We also discourage rugs as they can be a hazard for tripping.

All linen and towels are supplied and laundered for your loved one. We’ll collect and wash their personal laundry and return it weekly, or more frequently if needed. For residents who prefer to wash their own clothes, there’s a large, free laundry. We also have dryers, irons and ironing boards available to use.

Residents are responsible for costs associated with:

  • Medications and pharmacy
  • Some outings
  • Taxi fares
  • Hairdressing
  • Private physiotherapy
  • Mobile dental service
  • Mobile imaging services
  • Our care team accompanying them on trips to external appointments.

Enjoy a cup of tea together, play a board game, or have a family BBQ. Friends and family are also welcome to join in with activities and attend meetings and forums with their loved ones. There’s plenty for visitors to see and do.

Open visiting is warmly invited. To maintain privacy and dignity for all residents, we ask that friends and family wishing to visit outside of regular hours make special arrangements with our care team.

Yes, it’s good for residents to have a change of scene. Some planning and supervision are required, so just let us know in advance and together we’ll make suitable arrangements.

Yes of course, provided they are willing to come and visit. Alternatively, we have a list of accredited GPs who can visit as needed.
