Jesmond Grove Hostel provides accommodation for 84 low care residents and includes general, dementia specific and dementia secure areas. The Hostel has provision for respite care and is also able to accommodate married couples.
Jesmond Grove is fully certified and accredited with the Department of Health & Ageing and the Aged Care Standards & Accreditation Agency. Additionally, the facility was awarded two Better Practice Awards in 2011 for the implementation of the Memory Magic program and the Cameos for Empathy in Dementia Care project.
The facility employs approximately 55 staff including the facility manager, registered nurses, enrolled nurses, care assistants, lifestyle & wellbeing and hotel services staff. Additionally, Anglican Care employs a Physiotherapist and Lifestyle & Wellbeing Co-ordinator who work across all of our residential aged care facilities. Unique to each of Anglican Care’s residential aged care facilities is the role of the Resident Liaison Officer. The objective of this role is to ensure that the individual and social wellbeing needs of our residents are met according to Anglican Care’s mission, vision and values. The Resident Liaison Officers also act as a liaison for residents and relatives with due regard to the Charter of Residents Rights and Responsibilities.
The quality of care provided at Jesmond Grove Hostel is enhanced by the provision of a stimulating lifestyle and wellbeing program. In 2011, the "Nostalgic Pathways" project was implemented into two wings of the Hostel. The objective of the project is to improve the mood and increase positive social and environmental interactions for residents living within the dementia specific wings of the Hostel by modifying the environment, both inside the Hostel and in outdoor areas via a series of ‘activity nooks’.
Anglican Care also has an active community of volunteers, with many volunteers providing additional services and new friendships to the residents of Jesmond Grove Hostel.
Located within the Wallsend Parish area, the facility is located approximately 15 minutes from John Hunter Hospital, is close to public transport and within walking distance of the Stockland Jesmond Shopping Centre. The facility enjoys close ties with the local GP’s, schools and other community groups.
Located within the grounds of Woodlands Village is our residential aged care facility named Woodlands Lodge, which offers 24-hour care to 72 residents.
The Lodge has several different styles of rooms all with external access and 17 rooms have balconies offering an additional area for relaxing and watching the world go by. We are thrilled to be able to offer residential accommodation and care to “couples” who wish to remain together – a unique unit which has a kitchenette, ensuite, and two individual rooms that can used as a sitting room and bedroom or two bedrooms.
We have a dementia specific unit offering specialised care to residents. We offer a wide selection of meals over a four week rotating menu and all meals are cooked daily on-site.
There is a comprehensive program of social activities – including art and craft classes, entertainment from local school groups, musicians, dance groups, bus outings, movie afternoons, bingo, poetry readings, armchair travelling and many more. Something for everyone.
We are supported by our local clergy who provide a church service every Sunday on a rotating basis. The public library supplies us with books (many in large print) and these are routinely changed every few months.
There is a hairdressing salon within Woodlands Lodge and our hairdresser comes two days a week every week. Our wonderful band of volunteers compliment the work of our staff and assist in providing special care to our residents.
There is an easy walking grade pathway around Woodlands Lodge accessible for all residents to enjoy a leisurely stroll in the fresh air and enjoy the beautifully landscaped gardens.
