Affordable housing for Tasmanian seniors

The Council of Social Service (TasCOSS) has welcomed the seniors affordable housing announcement made by the Premier, Paul Lennon.

More than 240 new dwellings will be built for low income Tasmanians, as part of the first instalment of the new Affordable Housing Organisation agreement.

The agreement, first announced last December with a commitment of 700 new homes, is a partnership between the Government and the business and community sectors.

Mat Rowell of TasCOSS says actions to alleviate the public housing shortage is at last getting under way.

“We’ve been concerned for some time that that has taken a number of months to get off the ground, so we’re extremely heartened by hearing the Premier [saying] that that’s actually getting up and running,” he said.
