Asthma-common cold link
A joint Hunter Medical Research Institute and UK study, just published in the Nature Medicine journal has found out why asthmatics are more prone to the common cold.
The study shows that cells lining the airways of people with asthma are more at risk of being infected with the cold virus. He says participants who recorded the worst symptoms had increased inflammation and were deficient in the release of anti-viral proteins in response to infection.
The research is expected to lead to better treatments for viral-induced asthma.
