Australia’s ‘best seniors’ living’

The Village at Yeronga has again attracted the attention of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) this month, winning the prestigious national award for 2013 Best Seniors’ Living.

The Village at Yeronga has again attracted the attention of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) this month, winning the prestigious national award for 2013 Best Seniors’ Living.

The national award follows a string of other successes for the development in recent years. Last year, the development was also the recipient of the Best Seniors’ Living award.

In 2010, The Village at Yeronga was presented with the UDIA’s state awards for Best Seniors’ Living and Large-Medium Density Development.

The UDIA National Excellence Awards celebrate Australia’s contemporary knowledge, skills and innovation in the urban development industry. The awards recognise outstanding achievements of high quality developments.

Justin Harrison, chief executive of The Village Retirement Group, the brainchild behind The Village at Yeronga said the group was delighted to receive the prestigious award.

“Our team is hugely proud of what we’ve accomplished and created at Yeronga and we believe we’re setting a new standard in retirement living that many other retirement village operators will strive to emulate,” Mr Harrison said.

He said the latest award followed a hugely successful period for the village, with the opening of Stage 3 (Fehlberg Building), the arrival of many new residents and sales topping 70%.

“The success we’re experiencing is simply a testament to the entire project, which boasts resort style facilities and three levels of care if and when our residents need it.”

Village manager, Gillian Roe, said it was the unique approach to developing and operating The Village at Yeronga that was one of the keys to its success.

“Our residents and prospective residents have the opportunity of having direct contact with our chairman and chief executive,” Ms Roe said.

“We feel this is an important part of building a vibrant village community. This personal touch has become increasingly rare in the retirement village industry so we’re proud that we’re doing things differently – in a way that’s most important to our residents.”

The Village at Yeronga is situated on 2.8 hectares of open space and surrounded by parkland and sporting fields. The village is uniquely positioned facing north and east.

It has no immediate neighbours, thereby creating the opportunity to depart from the low level urban fabric of Yeronga.

The village is also reportedly the first integrated inner city retirement village and aged care facility in Queensland which allows seniors to retire in the suburb they have grown up in and helped to create.

Residents enjoy an independent lifestyle with a range of modern facilities and three levels of care.

The village also offers assisted living apartments which adjoin an aged care facility that is owned and operated by Regis.

On completion, The Village at Yeronga will comprise 240 two and three bedroom independent living apartments and 60 assisted living apartments accommodated within six buildings varying from three to six stories in height.

The Village at Yeronga is located at 15 Cansdale Street. Building three is now open. Just a few remaining two and three bedroom apartments are available with city and parkland views priced from $459,000.
