New South Wales Premier, Barry O’Farrell, has slammed the Labor government, stating its “pig-headed and dishonest decision to ram through its carbon tax will be a disaster” for seniors, NSW families and small businesses.
Warning seniors and other groups to “brace” for increases in power prices of up to 15%, Premier O’Farrell says there will be a “period of uncertainty”.
“With the national economy already sluggish, the last thing NSW needs is another Labor tax to put a handbrake on business,” he said.
“Many families [and seniors] are already worried about their jobs and Labor’s carbon tax will only add to that concern,” he added.
A NSW Treasury analysis has found Labor’s carbon tax will cost at least 31,000 jobs and deliver a $3.7 billion annual hit to the state’s economy.
“It will also force up electricity prices for NSW households by up to $498 a year. Businesses will pay $927 to $4,191 more a year, depending on usage,” Premier O’Farrell added.
