Celebrating Aged Care week
From BBQs and morning teas to aged care forums and multicultural lunches, the enormous contribution of Victoria’s thousands of aged care workers is being acknowledged and honoured with a serious of events in this year’s Celebrating Aged Care Week from 17-23 October.
Ambassador for the week, renowned cook Maggie Beer says: “Celebrating Aged Care Week shows our wonderful aged care staff how much their work is valued. Their contribution to supporting the high quality of care provided to residents is just so greatly appreciated by residents, their family, aged care operators and the community at large.”
The Celebrating Aged Care Week campaign has been running since 2012 and is an initiative of the Public Sector Residential Aged Care Leadership Committee; a network of public sector aged care directors of nursing in Victoria committed to the improvement of the public residential aged care sector. This year’s key message is ‘We Care’.
As well as aiming to promote and publicise the opportunities and rewards of working in public sector residential aged care the events Celebrating Aged Care Week also aims to attract and retain the best quality employees to complement the ageing population in an increasingly competitive market.
“With our ageing population growing, we need residential aged care workers now more than ever – when it comes to our elderly moving into their next stage of life, everything can feel totally unfamiliar and at times overwhelming, but this is exactly why working in aged care offers such an incredible opportunity; the right support makes every difference,” says Ms Beer.
This year’s celebration include the launch of three new awards which acknowledge workers committed to Victoria’s aged care sector through their initiatives in leadership, passion and voluntary capacities.
Finalists will be announced at the Celebrating Aged Care event Delighting the sense: Eat well, smell the roses and live longer with Maggie Beer on Friday 21 October.
