Cost of living driving retirees out of Territory

One in five retirees will be forced out of the Territory by the rising costs of living and the lack of affordable healthcare, according to the biggest ever survey conducted of NT over-50s.

Palmerston Seniors’ Advisory Committee, NT Council on the Ageing, Federal Senator, Nigel Scullion, and Member for Solomon, Dave Tollner, co-sponsored the 24,000 householder survey – Where To After Retirement?
The results revealed that 23% of respondents planned to leave the Territory when they retired. Twenty two per cent cited the cost of living as a reason and 19% the lack of affordable health care.
