Delivering quality aged care training
The delivery of quality, specialised training is vital to the aged care industry.
“Securing this extended contract reaffirms LASA Victoria’s position as a leading provider of highquality, nationally recognised aged care qualifications,” Diana FitzGerald, LASA Victoria general manager of training, said.
“Our accredited courses have been developed to support career growth and development for professionals within the aged care sector, and support employers through building the capacity and capability of the aged care workforce.”
Ms FitzGerald added increased support to deliver training to, and facilitate growth of, the aged care workforce was vital for the industry to be able to deliver the quality and amount of care required in the future.
“There are three million Australians over the age of 65, a figure that grows by 1,000 people every week. Our Victorian aged care workforce needs to triple by 2050 to support this growth, and the delivery of quality, specialised training is vital for this to occur.
“While we are delighted about this contractual commitment from Skills Victoria, unfortunately there has also been a recent reduction in available funding per student to deliver aged care training.
“This may lead to challenges for those who wish to up-skill in this rapidly growing industry, however LASA Victoria remains committed to working with government to ensure our Training Division can continue to grow to meet industry need.
“Our focus is on increasing the capacity and capabilities of Victoria’s workforce now and for the future through many workforce initiatives and our training which includes: Certificate III and IV qualifications in Aged Care and Home and Community Care; Leisure and Health, Frontline Management and Diplomas in Community Services Coordination and Management all contextualised for aged care across the spectrum of residential, retirement living and the home and community.”
VET Funding Contracts are between the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and RTOs, for the delivery of government subsidised training.
The training, funded through the new three year contract, will be delivered to eligible individuals through the Victorian Training Guarantee Program and will run from next year through to 2016.
