Presented by Professor Dawn Brooker, keynote speaker for the upcoming Dementia Australia National Symposium 2020, the masterclasses are targeted towards managers and healthcare professionals responsible for implementing the new Aged Care Quality Standards.

At a time when the Aged Care Safety and Quality Royal Commission has highlighted the need for sector transformation, the Dawn Brooker Masterclass will be a must-attend workshop for leaders in the aged care sector.

Professor Brooker says she is looking forward to bringing her important and practical masterclass to Australia.

“Providing excellent dementia care is a challenge around the world,” says Prof Brooker.

“By taking a systematic approach using evidence about what works, we can transform people’s lives.”

There is a maximum of 60 places for each masterclass available. The limited numbers will ensure an interactive environment and an opportunity for meaningful dialogue regarding the process of workplace implementation.

Beginning as a clinical psychologist, Professor Brooker went on to develop the internationally recognised VIPS (Very Important Persons) Framework.

The VIPS framework sums up the four key elements in Professor Tom Kitwood’s philosophy of person-centred care for people living with dementia as: Values, Individualised approach, Perspective of the person living with dementia and Social environment. There are six indicators for each element.

In 2019, Professor Brooker won the Journal of Dementia Care’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in improving person-centred care for people living with dementia.
