Dubbo Hospital Gets New Services and Status

A new stroke service will see new and improved treatment for stroke sufferers at Dubbo Base Hospital, NSW Funding of $323,400 will be used for a Stroke Care Coordinator, Speech Pathologist, Nurse Educator and new equipment to support stroke care.
Acute patients will now have access to two designated stroke beds and specific treatment protocols for stroke patients from the time they present in the emergency department through to their rehabilitation.
The Dubbo Base Hospital will also become a Centre of Excellence for Chronic and Complex Care. This covers a range of illnesses that are prolonged, do not resolve spontaneously and are rarely cured completely. They include conditions such as diabetes, cancer, asthma, arthritis, coronary artery disease, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, dementia and kidney disease.
The project includes the recruitment of a Stream Director, Stream Coordinator/ Clinical Nurse Consultant and additional Allied Health hours in Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy to support rehabilitation programs for chronic conditions.
