The Easter spirit is alive at Villa Maria’s White Road Activity and Respite Centre this week.

White Road – run by not for profit aged and disability services provider Villa Mara – is based in Wantirna and offers a range of programs and activities for adults aged 65 years and over and living in the east with an acquired physical disability, such as a brain injury or stroke, people living with dementia, those with a visual or physical impairment, people who are frail aged, as well as offering vital respite for their carers.

At the start of this week, White Road visitors Mavis, Euphemia, Josie, June and Catherine were busily creating Easter bonnets with assistance from White Road lifestyle coordinator, Linda Willing.

The colourful hats, featuring purple tulle, flowers and lace, formed part of Easter celebrations leading up to Good Friday including hot cross buns and Easter chocolate making, and chatting about experiences of Easter traditions shared with family members and friends.

White Road team leader, Angela Ng, said the team at White Road always made a special effort to celebrate landmark days, festivals and cultural events together.

“Each week we also choose a theme, such as ‘Happy Week’, ‘Christmas in July’ or ‘Spring into Spring’ during the first week of September, to give those who access the program an opportunity to try new activities, share experiences, ideas and to reminisce,” Ms Ng said.

Josie, a local Knox resident, has been visiting White Road since August last year along with her neighbour, June, whom she invited to the group.

“I really enjoy getting out of the house and meeting new people,” Josie said.

Operating Monday to Friday, the community house is in a pleasant garden setting in Wantirna. For more information call (03) 9800 7210.
