Education program for aged care chefs
The Maggie Beer Foundation will be launching its inaugural ‘Creating an Appetite for Life’ education program designed specifically for chefs and cooks working within the aged care facilities.
The program is designed to challenge and inspire 30 chefs and cooks from Victorian aged care homes to create nutritious, memorable, low cost meals.
The event will take place over three days in South Australia’s wine region, Barossa Valley. The pilot program is limited to 30 cooks and chefs from Victoria with the intention of extending the invitation to other states in the near future.
The event will focus on nutritious ingredients, food budgeting, supplier relationships, aged care specific recipes, menus and dining room management and will also include discussions with those working on the front line.
The three day program will include an intimate dinner at Maggie Beer’s home and hands on cooking sessions with Ms Beer herself. Joining her will be Peter Morgan Jones, HammondCare’s executive chef and chef Simon Bryant.
“Food is the fuel of life, of great conversation and memorable meals,” Ms Beer says.
“Its substance is far more than just the act of eating. It’s the knowledge of loving preparation, the anticipation of a beautifully cooked and presented meal and the delicious pleasure of eating that we want to provide,” she says.
“Because food is nutrition not just for the body, but for the soul. It’s what fires our appetite for life, no matter what age. Now how can we help you create an appetite for life every day in your kitchens?”
Applications for the program close Friday, 8 May 2015. For more information, click here.
