Embrace technology in aged care

Embracing technology based services in the aged and community care industry should come as ‘second nature’ to providers.

Continuing investment in connected communities will enable these services to support an ageing Australia.

The message comes from Chris Goldstone, founder of IT strategy and management company, Strategic Directions, who will moderate aged care provider, Feros Care's Smart Technologies Bootcamp in August.

With over 30 years’ experience in the technology sector, Mr Goldstone will facilitate the transfer of knowledge during the seminar to discuss the range of technologies available within the aged care industry and how they can improve the lives of health care providers, carers and clients.

Mr Goldstone emphasised the importance for aged care providers to be aware of existing innovative products as well as the development of future technologies to enable an ageing population independent, healthy and socially active lives for as long as possible.

“The aged and community care industry should embrace technology based services to a point where it is as normal as wearing a watch,” he says.

“Continuing investment in connected communities and the digital economy will enable these services to support our ageing community.”

While implementing the latest technology can be expensive and take time for seniors to adapt to new technologies, Mr Goldstone believes a seamless transition to a more efficient system will benefit the aged care sector as a whole.

The Feros Care Smart Technologies Bootcamp will be held 27-28 August, and will address virtual case management, m-health, social connectedness, falls and mobility, dementia technologies and telehealth.
