A new Western Australian simulation centre may give aged care students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills before embarking on their career in aged care or other fields of health practice.
The Juniper Simulation Centre is located at Perth’s newest integrated retirement living, community care and professional training facility, Ron Wilson House, opened by Juniper, one of Western Australia’s providers of retirement, residential and home aged care services.
The new $6.6 million Juniper Ron Wilson House in Bentley will deliver state of the art education and training facilities, in partnership with Curtin University through the simulation centre, as well as 16 units which give aged residents theo opportunity remain in their home as they age and as their requirements change.
Juniper chief executive, Vaughan Harding, said the simulation centre would create a dynamic environment where Curtin Health Science Faculty students and Juniper’s health professionals work together to produce the best outcomes for residents and clients.
“The Juniper Simulation Centre is an invaluable resource that will enable students to develop their knowledge and skills before they embark on their career in aged care or other fields of health practice,” he said.
The project is part of a range of new state wide retirement, community and aged care services and facilities the organisation is rolling out to meet massive demand expected over the next decade.
The facility’s name pays tribute to Sir Ronald Darling Wilson QC, a former high court judge, human rights campaigner and Uniting Church leader.
The facility, located opposite Curtin University, at the organisation’s multi-service precinct at Juniper Rowethorpe in Bentley, was enabled by a $900,000 Lotterywest contribution.
Supported by a $390,000 grant from Health Workforce Australia, the Juniper Simulation Centre opens next month. First residents, selected from an extensive wait list, move into their new units from this month.
