A free aged care information centre which assists people in finding out how the aged care system works, and how to go about finding what care and support is available has opened in South Australia.

Mrs Liz Scarce, wife of the South Australian Governor, and the Mayor of Unley, Mr Lachlan Clyne, opened the centre, Agedcare Alternatives, on 3 December.

Mrs Scarce currently volunteers at Resthaven Malvern Residential Care Services.

Agedcare Alternatives is staffed primarily by volunteer ‘Options Guides’, who provide face-to-face information and support to those wishing to navigate the aged care system.

“Our Options Guides give free, one-to-one, face-to-face assistance to find out what an enquirer’s needs and concerns are,” explains Agedcare Alternatives coordinator, Franco Parenti.

“Anyone can call in and speak with an Options Guide or phone for information and a strategy to find their way through the plethora of information.”

For more information about Agedcare Alternatives, telephone (08) 8271 3888. It is located at 1/445 Fullarton Road, Highgate and open during business hours.
