Opening at Palm Beach last week, the development by Horizon Housing Company, was built for older residents in housing stress.
Tenants aged over 55 years and who are on the Department of Communities social housing waiting list, are already moving into the building, comprising 23 one-bedroom units, six of which are adaptable for those living with a disability.
Horizon Housing Company chief executive, Jason Cubit, said the latest Gold Coast City Council Housing Needs Assessment showed the number of seniors’ accommodation available is “only half of what is needed” to house those on the Department of Communities waiting list.
“It is important we work towards bridging this gap between supply and demand by building projects like this, which are affordable but still boast a quality architectural design along with lifestyle amenities like a communal barbecue area, landscaping, lift access and undercover car parking,” Mr Cubit said.
