Helping to care via technology
Meet Anna. She provides ‘care from a distance’, helping older people stay healthy and independent. However, Anna isn’t a human caregiver; she is an ‘avatar’ for smart tablets like iPads, which helps providers by acting as their proxy in day to day interactions with clients.
Anna Cares, designed and created by Clevertar, reminds about important activities, monitors behaviours and alerts human caregivers about any ‘flagged’ issues, allowing caregivers and service providers to focus on complex care coordination by allowing Anna to deliver routine support.
The innovation, which was this year named as one of Australia’s 100 most innovative services, initially came about when researchers at South Australia’s Flinders University realised, through research, that with the explosion of smart tablet and phone devices, ‘clever avatars’ could help to provide ‘care from a distance’.
Anna Cares is just one innovation in the aged care industry which will be discussed at the upcoming Information Technology in Aged Care 2014 conference, held in Hobart from 22 to 23 July.
The theme of the conference, Digital Revolution in Seniors Living – assistive technologies: disruptor or enhancer of services? emphasises the importance of information technology in establishing a sustainable, quality focused aged care environment.
The conference will bring together local and international experts across the fields of community care, medication management, and assistive technologies and information system delivery. These critical aged care topics will be discussed from a practical perspective, highlighting the information we need to know how to better manage and design aged care service delivery.
