Melbourne women volunteers sought for new dementia study

Melbourne’s Monash University is looking for volunteers for a medical study that aims to prevent dementia in older women.

Researchers say that women aged over 45 are twice as likely as men to suffer dementia and memory loss.

They believe that low levels of testosterone in women may be a contributing factor. The proposed six month-study involves spraying the skin with testosterone twice a day to increase levels of the hormone in the brain.

Female volunteers aged between 45 and 60 years, post-menopausal and also undergoing oestrogen therapy are the ones being targeted. They will be given testosterone via a skin spray, which in itself is a new and exciting way to deliver the hormone.

Women living  in Melbourne who  are interested in volunteering for that test should phone (03) 9903 0833 or (03) 9903 0827.
