Ministerial Awards for Excellence in Aged Care

Nominations are being invited for the 2007 Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Aged Care, with awards totalling $100,000.

The Minister for Ageing Christopher Pyne said the awards provided an opportunity for the Australian Government and the community to recognise the tireless work and best practice of aged care workers, organisations and carers of older Australians.

The awards recognise innovation and commitment to staff development, education and training, leading to improved quality of care for older Australians.

Mr Pyne has called on the public to nominate any individual or an organisation providing exceptional aged care.

There will be two winners for each category – one from residential aged care and one from community aged care. This brings the number of awards to 10, valued at $10,000 each.

The categories for the 2007 Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Aged Care are:

· Leadership and management – individual
· Professional development – individual
· Aged care lifestyle – individual
· Training and staff development – organisation
· Information technology – organisation.

Ita Buttrose will head the judging panel.
