New style retirement village for Moruya on NSW south coast
Plans for a $280 million village on Moruya’s outskirts that are claimed to ‘reinvent retirement living’ have been lodged with the NSW Department of Planning.
It is the single biggest development proposed for Eurobodalla Shire on the South Coast.
Developer David Goodrich, of Silver Spirit Partners, says Moruya East Village would house 1,000 people, and be “a world class, integrated, seniors living experience” for those still working and living independently, to those needing the highest level of care.
The village also includes a residential sub-division not restricted to older people.
Moruya Chamber of Commerce president Graham Scobie, said there was overwhelming community support for the concept and the boost it would give the local economy.
He said Eurobodalla Shire had twice the national level of unemployment, so the 400 jobs during construction, as well as the 80 permanent full and part time jobs once completed, would make a huge difference.
“No one in the baby boomer generation aspires to be part of the current retirement village model,” Mr Goodrich said.
“We have employed four leading architectural firms to design different elements of the project to create variety and enhance the feeling of community,” he said.
The company has lodged the concept plan for the whole project as well as the development application for Stage One of what Mr Goodrich expects will be a four stage development.
