Older Australians jumping online
A new report released this month shows older Australians are using the internet more than ever, with many opting for tablet devices. The annual Sensis e-Business Report showed 89% of the over-65s say they accessed the net last year, up from 59% the year before.

Among older people, the increase in ownership of tablet devices such as an iPad or Galaxy jumped dramatically.
Almost one in five (19%) now own a tablet device compared to one in 50 (2%) just a year ago.
National Seniors reports the use of social media more than tripled during the past year among over 65s, with 27% claiming they have used social media sites in the past year, up from 10% last year.
The report also found of the 44% of people aged 65 years and over who have shopped online, 58% have bought books (compared to 43% of all those who bought online), 37% bought airline tickets, 33% clothing, accessories and shoes (48%), and 27% music.
