Alzheimer’s Australia NSW CEO The Hon. John Watkins AM says it is fantastic to have Opal Aged Care’s support for the flagship event, which has grown to 10 locations across the two states.

“Memory Walk & Jog is the major fundraising and awareness raising event for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW and Alzheimer’s Australia Vic and we’re really pleased that Opal Aged Care has come on board to support it,” Mr Watkins says.

“Thanks to Opal’s support, we have been able to add a new NSW Memory Walk & Jog in Penrith and are holding a joint Memory Walk & Jog with Alzheimer’s Australia Vic in Albury Wodonga.”

Together, Alzheimer’s Australia NSW and Alzheimer’s Australia Vic are aiming to raise $1 million to support people impacted by dementia.

Alzheimer’s Australia Vic CEO Maree McCabe says: “We held our inaugural Memory Walk & Jog event in Geelong last year and due to the success of the event and the support of Opal, we’re expanding to four additional locations over the next nine months.”

Alzheimer’s Australia Ambassador Ita Buttrose says Memory Walk & Jog was a great way for people to get out and support people living with dementia, while doing some good for themselves at the same time.

“Memory Walk & Jog is a wonderful day out and a fitting way to support people living with dementia. My sincere thanks to Opal Aged Care and the other event sponsors who are helping this event to grow and get bigger and better each year,” Ms Buttrose says.

Opal Aged Care Managing Director, Gary Barnier, says Opal is proud to support Memory Walk & Jog. “We’re very excited to be growing our partnership with Alzheimer’s Australia,” he says.

“Our sponsorship of Memory Walk & Jog is another step towards fighting the dementia epidemic. We want people to join us in the Race Against Dementia so come along and walk, run or jog to support Australians and their families that are living with the condition.”

The 2015 Geelong Memory Walk & Jog is held this Sunday 13 September. For more information, or to find a Memory Walk & Jog event near you, go to memorywalk.com.au.
