PM rejects personal time limit
The Prime Minister, John Howard, has rejected a compulsory retirement age for politicians even though High Court Judges are forced to retire at the age of 70 years.
Howard, who turns 68 in July, said many seniors had a lot to offer, and cited Rupert Murdoch and former US Federal Reserve Chairman, Alan Greenspan, as two influential and powerful men who were working in their 70s (Greenspan has only recently retired).
He refused to say if he would serve a full term if re-elected, and Kevin Rudd responded to his remarks, saying that Australia needed to know who they were voting for, not Mr Howard’s age.
