Reducing errors in aged care
Improving efficiencies and reducing errors in aged care facilities has been the aim of a collaboration between aged care software company Management Advantage and medication management solutions company Webstercare.
Management Advantage and Webstercare has announced that Manad Plus, a leading software package that supports aged care facility operations, has successfully integrated with MedSig, the leading medication management communications software used in aged care facilities.
The collaboration now enables Manad Plus to communicate new admissions or changes in resident details directly to MedSig. This means there is no double handling and the data is seamlessly sent so the pharmacist can accept the new record.
Conversely, MedSig can communicate information back to Manad Plus, such as any medications that are not administered, and have progress notes inserted and available for all staff to see.
Allowing for a seamless integration of important patient and clinical information, this collaboration allows transparency and easy data access for all service providers.
Gerard Stevens AM, Webstercare chief executive, said collaboration and interoperability between aged care software providers offered significant opportunities for aged care facilities.
“Many aged care facilities face enormous financial and operational pressures and these are exacerbated by the ageing population and government funding pressures. As support service partners to aged care facilities, Webstercare and Management Advantage, two independent companies, are committed to supporting aged care facility goals and have thus invested considerable time and energy to come up with a solution that integrates our systems,” Mr Stevens said.
“The result will benefit our aged care facility partners by helping to improve efficiencies and enhance patient safety by reducing the chance of transcribing errors,” he added.
“Collaboration has to be considered ‘the new black’ in this industry whenever it can lead to improved efficiencies and patient safety. So, we’ll continue to consider collaborating with other aged care service providers whenever such positive outcomes are attainable.”
Peter Staples, Manad chief executive, said: “Management Advantage is very excited about this collaboration. This by far the most cost efficient way to go, complimentary systems effectively spread development costs and end up giving other spinoffs that benefit the client.
“The decision for both Webstercare's MedSig and Manad Plus to interface in this way was a no brainer. The best of both worlds: medication and care management talking directly to each other.”
The benefits of the collaboration between the two aged care facility suppliers are already bearing fruit.
Alexandra Zammit, Thomas Holt Village chief executive, said: “The interface of these two systems simplifies sharing of information allowing our staff to focus on resident care”.
