For residential aged care providers across Australia, increased competition, the ageing population and changes to the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI) have resulted in a renewed focus on the bottom line. This is particularly the case for not-for-profit providers who often operate with tight margins.

Providers are recognising the need to not only provide great care but to use digital health solutions to support running a sustainable business for the long term.

That’s why Telstra Health – Aged, Disability & Community Care (ADCC) has been working on the next generation of its Clinical, Care and Medication Management software, for release from November 2017. The software contains significant enhancements to the existing ACFI module, Assessment Form and Care Plan areas, which will help to bring key information to the surface to deliver better care.

“We have been working closely with our clients to develop the next version of our Clinical, Care and Medication Management software based on their needs in a changing environment,” Michael Donnelly, Head of Aged, Disability & Community Care at Telstra Health explains.

“Based on feedback from our clients, we are investing heavily to create a solution that alerts providers to every dollar of ACFI funding they are entitled to, so that they can provide top quality care and continue to invest for the future.”

Clinical, Care and Medication Management also highlights potential ACFI uplifts for residents by notifying staff of any relevant clinical changes documented in the software at the point of care delivery. The enhanced ACFI Quick Calculator promptly estimates a resident’s potential funding and helps to identify relevant category increases to flag reappraisal based on evidence captured about actual care needs. ACFI reporting capabilities have also been extended to assist providers to identify any variance in resident funding and better manage their overall reporting requirements.

The software not only supports aged care providers to maximise ACFI funding, but has been designed with nursing, care staff and residents in mind.

“An intuitive user interface and simple navigation are key features of our Clinical, Care and Medication Management software. A user centred design supports staff to spend less time on administration and more time with residents,” Mr Donnelly states.

The Telstra Health – ADCC team recently demonstrated the latest version of Clinical, Care and Medication Management at their annual User Group Meetings across the country.

“It’s always fantastic to receive positive feedback from clients, and we have been thrilled at the reception for our latest version,” Mr Donnelly says.

“We truly believe technology is the key to enabling residential aged care providers to be competitive and sustainable in an evolving market.”
