The world of work in a decade’s time
Within a decade millions of workers will be at home juggling their careers with caring for children and older relatives, according to one of Britain’s leading management institutes.
The Guardian newspaper has reported that the Chartered Management Institute’s new report showed that by 2018, there would be an exodus from the traditional workforce.
Working from home, on one or more projects at a time, would become more common.
They said two factors would cause this to occur: a reduction of commuting to reduce environmental impacts and the increased caring demands of an ageing population.
The institute surveyed 1,000 senior executives on how they envisaged the future of work. Three quarters said they expected virtual teams of employees to become commonplace by 2018.
