‘Tricking’ wrinkles into vanishing

Women can literally say ‘goodbye’ to wrinkles as a new range of anti-ageing creams that “trick” human skin cells into regenerating themselves is expected to be developed this year. Women can literally say ‘goodbye’ to wrinkles as a new range of anti-ageing creams that “trick” human skin cells into regenerating themselves is expected to be developed this year.

Designed to smooth wrinkles, The Herald Sun reports the products will use naturally occurring sugars to improve a person’s health.

Artificial chemicals have been developed to mimic the behaviour of natural chemicals that penetrate the surface and stimulate the regeneration of skin cells.

Natural chemicals reportedly become less active with age, with experts hoping the cream will cause a “manufactured stimulus” to the skin to hopefully improve its condition and appearance similar to that of a young person.

L’Oreal is just one of many cosmetic companies hoping to harness the technology, which is expected to be a key element in the fight against cancer and a vaccine against fatal infant flu.

However, L’Oreal’s research director, Bruno Bernard, tells The Herald Sun there is “still much more” to cell signalling and the ageing process.

“But all the cosmetics we had before were acting on the surface. We are able to create a rejuvenating effect on the deeper levels of the skin,” he adds.
